SUPERBAS TOO MUCH FOR KNIGHTS AGAIN IN SECOND HALF
2-19-02(AP)Peanut- It was like a nightmare that kept repeating itself for Wood St. Once again, the Knights jumped out to an early lead in the first half, only to be trounced by the Superbas in the game's second frame.
"I thought last week was just a slump," lamented Alex Sipe before vowing not to talk to the media again. "I'm really, really disappointed."
As usual, the play was slow and close in the first half. The Knights grabbed an early lead and led by 5 going into the second half. Wood St.'s kicking game was consistent the entire game. Consistently to the right. It was one of the many factors that hurt the Knights in this game. But the most important factor in the loss was the stellar second half play of the Superbas. Cooperstown is making a habit of incredible second half scores, and today was no different. The #1 team in the PFL scored 58 points in the last period on their way to an 82-48 win. "I couldn't have imagined it ever being like this," McCarthy said after the game, "it's just too much fun out there."

COOPERSTOWN TURNS IN A PERFORMANCE FOR THE "CENTURY"
2-20-02(AP)Peanut- The question had lingered for over a week. Were the Knights in some kind of horrible slump, or were the Superbas just that good? Today at Caldwell Memorial Stadium, that question was answered emphatically. On a day when the Wood St. Knights amassed a team record 72 points, they still came up 41 short. That was because Mike McCarthy proved the doubters wrong and his own prediction correct. The Superbas blew past the century mark on their way to 113 points and a win.
It's probably best that Alex Sipe is boycotting the media, because he left the arena in what was described as a rather "huffy" manner. He couldn't be blamed for feeling that way, however. All the coach could do was watch as the Superbas marched up and down the field at will. The Knights had the greatest offensive output of their history, but it pailed in comparison to the balanced attack of Cooperstown. The Superbas took 54 points in the first half and threw it together with 59 in the second. The performance was nothing short of monumental.
"I'm surprised at the balance, but I'm not at all shocked that it happened," said Mike McCarthy after the drubbing. "Let this be a warning to any team that thinks they can win at this level of play."

SAME OLD STORY: SUPERBAS BEAT KNIGHTS WITH OFFENSE, KICKING
2-21-02(AP)Peanut- The tune of the PFL is beginning to sound like a broken record. The Superbas again beat the Knights, this time by a score of 80-61. Cooperstown stretched their record to 7-1 in league play, fueling rumors that an expansion team is about to be added to spice up play. League sources say that the news about any new teams will come by the beginning of next week.
In today's matchup, the Knights jumped out to a 13-0 lead. And before Alex Sipe could blink, his team was down by 11. Before the first half was over, The Superbas had stretched the lead to 18, and were ahead by a score of 38-20. "To get out to that kind of lead was important, because the Knights are getting stronger," Mike McCarthy added at the postgame. "We just had to hang on in the second half."
Cooperstown did indeed hang on, but Wood St. showed promise. The Knights were only outscored by a point in the second period of play, and that came with missing a field goal and four extra points. It was the kicking game that was the strength of the Superbas. McCarthy's team kicked two long field goals, four in all, on their way to an 80-41 victory. "I was a little nervous with the kicks last week," McCarthy admitted after the game, "but now i feel like we can make [field goals] from anywhere."
COOPERSTOWN EXPLODES IN SECOND HALF TO GRAB VICTORY: KNIGHTS KICK IT AWAY
2-14-02(AP)Peanut- On Valentine's Day, the Cooperstown Superbas played coy most of the first half, but bolted out of the gaits in the second half to steal an 84-60 victory from the Wood St. Knights.
The Knights could have held a 34-13 lead after the first half, but failed to capitalize on any kicks, missing three PAT's and two field goals. The last miss allowed the Superbas to score a touchdown as the first half expired and close the gap to 25-20.
"The way we had been playing," said Coach McCarthy, "I wasn't sure if we would be able to put up thirty points the whole game." And until the final first half score, it looked like that might be the case. Fortunately for Superbas fans, however, Cooperstown stormed out in the second half, scoring 27 straight points. The Knights would make a game of it, bringing the score to 67-60 with less than two minutes remaining in the game. But the Superbas would add two more touchdowns and a field goal to finish with 64 points in the second half and seal the victory.
"The game was alot closer than it looked, you have to give the Knights credit," McCarthy said afterward, "but thank goodness our offense found its rhythm in the second half."

SUPERBAS CRUSH KNIGHTS: SCORE 70 IN SECOND HALF
2-15-02(AP)Peanut-"I'm happy," Alex Sipe said after the game. But it wasn't because of a Knights victory. No the Knights didn't even come close to that. But Cooperstown came close to something else. "Mike didn't get to 100," deadpanned the Wood St. coach.
The Superbas were as close to perfect as a team could get in the second half. Close to perfect because they missed an early extra point that would have given them 100 points. Its the second time in four games that the Superbas have come within two points of the century mark.
The game started slowly and sloppily for both teams. Missed kicks and poor offenses were the story for the combatants. The Superbas took a slim 29-19 lead into the second half, where the Knights narrowed the gap to three points. From there on out, however, the story was all Cooperstown. The Superbas finished the game on a 63-7 run. Today's game was as close to total domination as the PFL has seen. "I expect to reach 100 points next week," said Mike McCarthy. "The Superbas are not here to lose."
